Beautiful park with a cute reproduction Thoreau house. The story trail was a great way to learn about his journey. If you want to go in summer get there early because they were closing the park due… Full review by wstcoastmama500

Uplifting & knowledge-filled visit to area that inspired one of the most important members of the Transcendentalist Mvt. To see how small Thoreau's hut was & the "pond" he submerged himself in for a… Full review by Marilyn M

My wife and I will be in Concord on Wednesday. How long should we allow for our visit? I know that one can walk along the pond and visit the cabin. I believe that there is a Visitor Center. Is that correct? Thanks. We are also thinking about visiting Emerson's home as well. We will be coming by commuter train to Concord and will be in town from about 10:30 am to about 3:45 pm. Thanks in advance. Thoreau is one of my historical heros.

We LOVED out time visiting here!! If you love Thoreau you will love your visit. There is a Visitor Center. And, yes, make sure you walk around the lake. And especially in the woods where you will find the foundation to the home he built. SO cool! The replica of his cabin is right by the Visitor Center. If you are taking public transportation to Concord, I am not sure where it will let you off. The walk from town to the site is doable but will take a bit of time. There is a great little restaurant downtown that has the BEST homemade soup!! We have been there twice. Enjoy and just explore. That is when you will find cool things. I hope this has helped a little bit.
Q:
Is there still a parking fee after labor day weekend
A:
It’s on our system there is no person but if authorities come by and you don’t have a ticket from the park you might get a ticket from the park ranger
Q:
Is there an admission fee per person ?
A:
There isn’t an admission fee but you need to pay to park ($8 for MA plates and $15 for out-of-state or you can get a pass that’s good through the end of year $60 or $120 respectively)
Q:
Can I access the parking lot with a Transit van?
A:
Yes. Parking was more than adequate. Just remember its 15 dollars to get in.

Route 126 (one lane in each direction) crosses Route 2 (a major highway with two lanes in each direction). Walden Pond is on Route 126. You can park across (on the other side of) Route 2 in a small parking area on Route 126. There is no charge. There is a light at the intersection of 126 and 2, but be VERY careful crossing!! Route 2 is a high speed highway.
