The European Union’s executive arm has started a process to provide Apple with guidance on how the iPhone maker can comply with rules to ensure its operating systems are functional with other technologies.

The European Commission plans to come up with its own measures that Apple has to follow to ensure interoperability if it doesn't want to pay huge fines.

The European Union has handed Apple a six month ultimatum to comply with its latest DMA ruling and EU regulations or face millions in fines.

These fairly new tech regulations in the EU have already impacted Apple in a number of major ways. Most notably, Apple was forced to allow third-party app stores on its iOS devices, like iPhone, which would compete with its own official App Store.

The European Commission wants Apple to continue complying with the DMA by requiring the company to offer more features to third-party makers.

The European Commission has begun to set out legal requirements for Apple to open up all of iOS and iPadOS to third parties, on top of allowing rival App Stores and payment systems.

The European Union antitrust regulators have launched proceedings on Thursday to ensure that the iPhone maker Apple complies with the DMA rules, which require it to open up the vault of its closed ecosystem to the rivals.

Apple is under pressure to comply with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), as the European Commission initiated two proceedings aimed at ensuring the tech giant adheres to new rules regarding cross-device interoperability and third-party access to its iOS and iPadOS operating systems.

Apple said it has “created ways for apps in the European Union to request additional interoperability with iOS and iPadOS while protecting our users.”
